Earthquake Cake


  1. 1 cup shredded, sweetened coconut
  2. 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  3. 1 box German chocolate cake (plus ingredients to make cake according to box)
  4. 1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese, softened
  5. 1 stick butter (1/2 cup)
  6. 2 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  7. 1 cup milk chocolate chips


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees f.
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch pan. Spread pecans and coconut on the bottom of your pan.
  3. Prepare cake mix batter according to directions on box. 
  4. Pour over the coconut and pecans.
  5. Melt the cream cheese and margarine in a small saucepan, over low heat, stirring continuously. Stir in powdered sugar. Pour over the cake batter. 
  6. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
  7. Bake for 40-50 minutes, until the center of the cake is set. 
  8. Serve warm with ice cream or cool completely.
